Context
Kent University participated in the Jisc & Graide pilot, implementing Graide for a formative workshop assignment featuring numerous practice questions.
Graide was integrated into the university's learning management system, allowing students to input their answers using the platform's sophisticated editor.
Upon completion, grades were automatically synced with the learning management system, and feedback was made visible to students through the LTI integration.
Methodology
User surveys were conducted to compare Graide to other systems they have used and to determine the usability of Graide as a platform for both staff and students.
In addition to user surveys, we have analysed data from the usage of Graide. This includes:
- An estimate of the amount of time to grade work
- The amount of feedback given to each submission
- The amount of handwriting repetition we were able to remove
Results
Student experience was improved
- Students found it easy to launch, navigate, upload, and use the editor
- Quality, consistency, and turnaround time improved
- 78% of students want to continue using Graide
Reduction in grading times
"Once you're used to the platform, it is faster." Normal allocation for marking is 10 minutes. With Graide, this went down to 6 minutes.
More feedback utilisation
4,200 words of feedback were given, only 400 words were typed.
10.5x feedback utilisation.
