Spin-out Graide, a leading provider of AI-powered assessment and feedback solutions, is proud to announce that it has signed a three-year contract with the University of Birmingham to support their mission of delivering high-quality learning experiences.

Graide was founded in 2021 by former students Robert Stanyon, Manjinder Kainth, and George Bartlett, providing a platform for marking maths, physics, and chemistry papers.

Since then, Graide raised £800,000 in 2022 and a further £1.6m in 2024 to expand in the UK and target new markets in the US and Canada. The company has also launched a new platform that can mark essays and reports in all subjects, and is now working on a new feature to detect students who use AI to write essays and recently announced an AI-driven integrated marking aid for apprenticeships with Aptem, the market-leading apprenticeship management system

The most recent milestone follows a rigorous and highly competitive public qualification process involving multiple vendors, during which Graide emerged as the university's preferred partner.

This agreement underscores the efficacy and innovation of Graide’s platform, which streamlines assessment workflows, enhances feedback quality, and empowers educators to focus more on student engagement.

"We are thrilled to partner with the University of Birmingham," said Manjinder Kainth, CEO of Graide. "Their selection of Graide through this competitive public process demonstrates the transformative potential of our platform in higher education."

Professor Andrew Quinn, Director of Education for the University’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, commented,

“The University of Birmingham's decision aligns with our strategic commitment to leverage technology for improved student experience and outcomes. Over the contract period, we look forward to working closely with Graide to deploy its AI-supported assessment tool, ensuring consistent, high-quality feedback for students whilst reducing the administrative burden on educators.”

David Coleman, CEO of University of Birmingham Enterprise said:

“I’m delighted to see Graide, one of our own spin-outs and a tenant at the Birmingham Research Park, thriving on the back of the investments they raised last year. The University’s decision to work with Graide shows the forward-thinking and innovative culture of a University that is constantly looking to improve, and the strength of the company in winning the bid.”
